Program Tracks and Topics

Theme and Topics

The Fifth Annual Cloud Slam 2013 Conference brings together a global alliance of thought leaders, professionals, corporations and users to expand their opportunities through keynote sessions, panel discussions and general sessions, contributing to a more precise understanding of the definition, adoption and development of cloud, enriching the dialogue between users and providers. Core industries in the spotlight at this event include healthcare, biotech and pharmaceutical sectors, looking at the intersection of cloud with life sciences helping to evolve maturity in one of the largest industries. Following topics will provide a framework.

  • IT Infrastructure & Operations
  • Transition & Integration
  • Compliance: Standards, Governance & Security
  • Research & Development
  • Technology & Tools For Life Sciences

IT Infrastructure & Operations

This track focuses on integrated data infrastructure and information management leveraging Cloud-based technologies. It will showcase leading edge shared infrastructure operating models and strategic business frameworks, simple turnkey cloud-based applications for SMB and large businesses/labs and portable health care, as well as collaborative efforts that streamline operations, sharpen focus and improve the speed and quality of decision making by standardizing technology platforms, consolidating common IT activities into shared services and rationalizing application and data.
Keywords: Meaningful Use, IT hardware, clinical systems, remote management solutions, mobile devices, care management software, electronic medical records, mobility, PACS, revenue cycle management, claims management, APB, RIS.

Transition & Integration

Cloud brings a lot of efficiencies like cost savings and efficiencies, as well as speed to adoption for IT tools, new market entry, business process transformation and improved customer alignment and interaction. But the road to mass cloud adoption is paved with a number of transitional bumps. Integrating cloud resources with existing architecture remains a key challenge of cloud adoption. This track will focus on smooth transition to cloud, preventing data loss and privacy issues, keeping control of operations and assets in the cloud, surviving the lack of unified standards and interoperability among providers and addressing the complexities that often arise in the implementation and operational phases of cloud adoption.
Keywords: MU2, interoperability, portability, clinical systems, remote management solutions, mobile devices, electronic medical records, mobility, PACS.

Compliance: Standards, Governance & Security

This track focuses on providing data protection and compliance strategies and solutions for wide spectrum of clients, starting from patient safety to governance like HIPAA compliance. It includes data standardization and information flow, bar codes to reduce improper dosage at healthcare delivery point, RFID tags to reduce counterfeiting, management and protection of huge datasets and much more.
Keywords: Meaningful Use, EHR, HIPAA, PCMH, accountable care models, clinical systems, remote management solutions, mobile devices, care management software, electronic medical records, mobility, PACS, revenue cycle management, claims management, APB, RIS.

Research & Development

Here we focus on Cloud-based technologies to power R&D activities like electronic enablement of clinical trials, high throughput screening of chemical and biological entities, data mining, molecular modeling of new biochemical entities as well as latest developments in IT Innovation e.g. new electronic methods for educating physicians, patients and consumers; direct-to-pharmacy; RFID for safety and supply chain efficiencies and many other use cases.
Keywords: personalized genomics, big data, mRNA, drug discovery, biomarker discovery, CNV, clinical systems, remote management solutions, mobile devices, care management software, electronic medical records, mobility, PACS, revenue cycle management, claims management, drug re-positioning.

Technology & Tools For Life Sciences

In this track we observe how the bar continues to be raised for integration of technology in the clinical or laboratory setting and leveraging these systems to provide better care and quality of life.
Keywords: applied clinical informatics, computerized physician order entry (CPOE), Clinical decision support (CDS),
